Since May, 2011, OPEKEPE participates in the research project named “SmartAgriFood”. It is one of the 8 projects financed by the European Program EU FP7 which are part of the “Future Internet Public Private Partnership” program. SmartAgriFood focuses, via Information and Communications Technology (ICT), on applications related to:
- smart farming, focusing on sensors and traceability,
- smart agri-logistics, focusing on real-time virtualization, connectivity and logistics intelligence,
- smart food awareness, focusing on transparency of data and knowledge representation.

As far as citizens are concerned, the project aims to the improvement of food quality, as well as to the diminution of the environmental impact by the limited use of pesticides and fertilizers and the efficient use of natural resources.
Within the framework of “SmartiAgriFood”, OPEKEPE will look for farmers who already use or are interested to integrate in their production automated systems. Subsequently OPEKEPE will record, analyze and, finally, evaluate their needs. |
